  Roop-Rote-Roung
(Taste Touch Tell)
Roop Rote Roung Vipoo Srivilasa’s upcoming project Roop – Rote – Ruang (Taste - Touch - Tell) will take the form of both an exhibition at Gallery 4A and a series of dinner parties, hosted by the artist, at various private residences in Sydney.

The gallery exhibition will focus on environmental issues. Visitors will also participate in the creation process by building their own pieces of coral from clay provided in the gallery. Those coral pieces will gradually come together to form a coral reef, growing larger as more people participate in the project.

At the dinner parties, Srivilasa will present a new ceramic dinner set over a four-course meal. The work will unfold as the meal is consumed. Images will gradually be exposed on bowls or plates and the full narrative will reveal itself as the dinner comes to its conclusion.

1 May 2008  Opening   Vipoo Srivilasa’s solo show at Über gallery was officially opened by writer and ex-curator of Craft Victoria, Kevin Murray. The evenings audience were treated to an array of intricate and characterful figures and forms that represent Srivilasa’s concern for the deterioration of the coral reefs and eco-systems of his native Thailand and of his new home of Australia.

This stark environmental warning is couples with Srivilasa’s usual humor and flair and a distinct sense of fun.

For The Future : Vipoo solo exhibition    In his latest show at Über Gallery, from 30 April – 1 June 2008, Vipoo Srivilasa incorporates work which is theatrical, flamboyant, humorous and always in search for beauty.

In this particular series, Srivilasa continues exploring the inherent commonalities between the cultures of his native Thailand and his new home of Australia, only this time the emphasis is on global warming and the damage caused to the coral reef of both countries due to greed and over consumption. He uses the coral reef issue as a link between the two places, as both face similar problems.

Open on Wednesday 30 April, 6.30pm (by invitation only - contact Über Gallery for detail)
