Garden of LOVE 2021

The 10th Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art (APT10)
Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art, Brisbane
4 Dec 2021—25 April 2022

Is there someone you miss?

In the Garden of Love, Srivilasa explores themes of love, loss, companionship, and loneliness, emphasising the emotions felt by many around the world as they were kept apart from their loved ones due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Garden of Love is a participatory exhibition which created an opportunity for children to express their feelings for the people they miss the most - especially during the pandemic when many had lost grandparents or had been separated from extended families - by writing them a message or drawing their portrait on a flower template. Children can add their flower to the garden to help it grow!

This public engagement element was accompanied by Dok Rak (meaning 'Flower of Love' in Thai), an animated ‘flower bear’ mascot created especially for the APT10 Kids. The character was inspired by Srivilasa’s ‘flower bear’ sculptures. Children can dance along with Dok Rak.
