How To Make A Million, 2013

Edwina Corlette Gallery, Brisbane
9 – 27 July 2013

In How to Make a Million, I play with the history of cultural exchange between European and Asian decorative arts.

During the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, European decorative arts were strongly influenced by Orientalism and often borrowed techniques and ideas from Asia and the Middle East. In my practice, I reverse this relationship by looking towards European ceramics and well-known Western artworks for inspiration.

The exhibition presents an imagined 12-step money-making program, with each step represented by a sculpture inspired by famous works of art. I invite viewers to look closely at each piece, discover its details and uncover the clues hidden within.
