Healer Superheroes of the Blue Mountains 2026

A community-engaged mosaic mural exploring the healing power of creativity and imagination.
Through a drawing workshop at Penrith Regional Gallery, I invited members of the local community to imagine and draw Healer Superheroes with special powers to help people heal.
Participants created characters with extraordinary abilities. Five drawings were selected: a superhero with long arms that tickle away illness through laughter; one with many large ears that listen without judgement; a magical cat whose purrs ease anxiety and restore calm; Mighty Mitochondria, who gives the body super-powered energy to recover; and a hero whose stoma bag has the power to transform fear into courage, helping others feel stronger and less alone.
Working closely with the selected drawings, I translated each character through my artistic language and brought them together in mosaic, while keeping the participants’ original ideas, stories and healing powers at the heart of the final artwork.
