Gyeonggi International Ceramic Biennale, South Korea
27 September - 17 November 2013

The exhibition, Home asks, What is a community? Where does community start and finish?

Srivilasa worked with Melbourne’s Korean community to find an answer.

Beginning with a ceramic workshop, each participant was invited to create a ceramic sculpture reflective of what they missed most about their hometown in Korea. Whilst hands were busy making in clay, individuals shared their experiences of migration, cultural shifts and how their community has changed.

Inspired by their answers and empathetic of migration’s lived experience, the artist created works that responded to each of the participant's sculptural work.

Interestingly these formed into four commonalities around shared community values: family, communication, culture, and connection.
