Water Spirit, 2014
Northern Clay Centre, Minneapolis, USA
14 March - 14 April 2014
During my residency at Northern Clay Center in Minneapolis, I developed Water Spirit, a community-based project inspired by the city’s lakes and rivers.
Through a series of clay workshops, I invited local residents to create underwater creatures inspired by mythical water beings remembered from their childhoods and cultural backgrounds.
I asked participants to reimagine how these creatures might adapt to living in Minneapolis’s urban waterways.
The workshops brought people together through making while encouraging conversations about environmental conservation, urbanisation and the changing ecosystems around them.
