Forest Friends of the Blue Mountains 2026

Nepean Hospital, New South Wales

A vinyl graphic artwork created for the paediatric unit at Nepean Hospital.

Inspired by ideas from the hospital’s paediatric staff, the work transforms the clinical environment into an imaginative forest filled with native flora, brightly coloured flowers and playful animal characters.

A Sulphur-crested Cockatoo appears among the gum leaves. A Blue Mountains Tree Frog hides among the flowers, while a colourful Rosella peeks out nearby. Other creatures—including a Black Cockatoo, Galah, Kangaroo and Quoll, Kookaburra, Eastern Water Dragon, Lyrebird, Magpie and Yellow-bellied Glider—are waiting to be found.

Created with designer Kelwin Wong, the artwork encourages young patients and their families to look closely, search for the hidden animals and make their own discoveries.

Forest Friends of the Blue Mountains aims to make the paediatric unit feel friendlier and more welcoming. The animals become gentle companions, bringing a little of the surrounding landscape and its wildlife into the hospital.
